Suggested Disclosure

We provide the following language for use in your methods section. Adapt as needed for your specific context and journal requirements.

Standard Disclosure (1-2 sentences)

"[N] completion(s) were obtained via PanelTopUp (paneltopup.com), which uses AI agents each built as a digital twin of an actual human based on publicly available voter and opinion panel data (see xpolls.ai). These responses were used to [reach minimum sample / pilot-test instrument / supplement convenience sample] and are disclosed as AI-generated."

Extended Disclosure (for methods sections)

"To supplement the sample, [N] additional responses were obtained from PanelTopUp (paneltopup.com), an AI survey completion service operated by xpolls.ai. Each AI agent is constructed as a specific digital twin: an instance of a large language model fine tuned to assume the unique identity of a single anonymized, United States voter that has answered a comprehensive demographic and behavioral survey. The AI agent, now endowed with this specific 1:1 data corresponding to a real human, then reads each survey question and responds consistently with its assigned demographic, attitudinal, and behavioral profile. These AI-generated responses are explicitly disclosed and were included to [pilot the instrument / reach the target sample size / test survey flow and skip logic]."

Footnote Version

"[N] of [total] responses were AI-generated via PanelTopUp (paneltopup.com; digital twins by xpolls.ai), disclosed per service terms."
